Hello 2013!

_FFC_

Well now, whodathunkit....ye olde F.F.C. has survived "the end of the world" and is still going strong into 2013 after more than a decade of frag'n fun! That's just amazing...you all deserve a hearty "Hooah!" for sure.

So let's see, what's going on in FPS gaming news:

Best PC Games of 2012
As you can observe from the list above, worthy FPS MP games were kinda slim-pickens. So I've tried to do what I can with our older COD games to keep them interesting but as time goes by that becomes a more difficult task. Mods like the French "War Ops" that we recently tried for COD4 are a good example...I like the concept but the execution and stability just ain't there.

Far Cry 3 - This is one game of note in the above list that deserves a few words. The SP is highly rated, and the MP isn't too shabby but as usual, way outta size for us. Its a whole island to explore, which is tedious enough in SP mode. But it is amazing in its scope and function, and beautiful in DX11 even on my aging Nvidia 550 TI.

Black Ops 2 - BlOps2 has its first DLC rumored to be out soon. More importantly, a major patch/update released last month which might make this a workable upgrade for us down the road. My buddy Vic (Paul) who moved to Indy earlier this year told me he bought it, so I'll see what he thinks. I'm pretty sure he made the purchase with the idea of joining us eventually as he has never been a gamer in the past. And the new Zombies mode has gotten great reviews. Still no dedi-servers but if the "friends" lobby works as well as it has for MW3... hmmm...we'll have to wait and see.

Sniper Elite V2 - While not high in the ratings, I did enjoy most of this SP & COOP tactical sniper game. The AI was decent, the graphics and sound very good and the missions challenging. I found a few glitches here and there with my graphics card but overall not a problem. Worth a look in the bargain bin if you enjoy this type of play. And it'll likely beat the ghillie suit off of the upcoming "Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2".  lol

Warface - Still quiet on the Western front; the Eastern (Russia & China) are having all the fun...dangit! Latest release date rumor is early March for the USA. I'm pretty sure that the date was bumped out to be after the "Crysis 3" Feb release in order to avoid possible sales impact...which makes sense but is still disappointing.

That's it for now....hope you all have a safe & prosperous 2013, and keep showing up to play!

  Mamba, out

Max Payne 3 - MultiPlayer!!

_FFC_

We've been having a good time with COD:MW3. Even with it's small quirks here and there, it runs pretty well on our hosted server. Hoping to see some new maps (DLC) for the PC released later in April, tho' these won't be free. No idea yet how this will work but stay tuned...

In other gaming news, I'm having fun with the Syndicate reboot. It's pretty good in SP, and looking forward to the price drops by year-end so we can try where it really shines...the 4-player COOP. The Payday:The Heist game has been fun but is hard to survive and kinda buggy at times....but hey, it was cheap.
What's really looking good is the third installment of Max Payne, from Rockstar games. I love the Payne series but they've never ventured into the multi-player world until now. As you can see from the first MP-mode video, I think technology has finally evolved enough for them to incorporate the trademark Payne gameplay into the online MP-mode. It looks amazing...if it works.
No details on the MP options such as server-model, number of players and so forth. I'll buy the game regardless just for the usual SP fun, but am really hoping this is a game we can all enjoy online eventually.
